Building Resilient Farmer Cooperatives in Kenya

James Kiprop

AgroDakk Foods

Smallholder farmers in Kenya face significant challenges: limited access to markets, price volatility, and lack of bargaining power. Farmer cooperatives are changing this dynamic by pooling resources and creating collective strength.

AgroDakk Foods partners with several farmer cooperatives in Trans Nzoia County. Through these partnerships, farmers gain access to:

- Bulk purchasing of seeds and organic inputs at discounted rates

- Shared processing and storage facilities

- Training programs on sustainable agriculture and quality standards

- Guaranteed purchase agreements at fair prices

- Direct access to international markets

One success story is the Kitale Smallholder Farmers Cooperative, which has grown from 15 members in 2019 to over 80 today. Members have seen their average household income increase by 65% since joining the cooperative and partnering with AgroDakk.
